Pea Lab Take 2

Goal: 
Complete the Background and Materials/Methods sections of your lab report.

Lab Cleanup
Take care of this place and take pride in YOUR lab space! We need to inventory the drawers, wash and put away all unused glassware, and wipe down the benches. 

Copy Procedures

  1. Copy the procedures you wrote into your lab report under the Materials and Methods heading.
  2. Make sure to add the data collection step if you haven't already. We will go over this as a class.
  3. Under the Data and Observations heading, add a blank table for data collection on Monday. Your table should include:
    1. Independent Variable 
    2. Dependent Variable
    3. Units (as applicable)

Set Up Experiments
Set up your experiment, following your procedure, to run over the weekend. 

WORK

  1. Finish your Background
  2. Edit your Materials and Methods section as needed.
  3. Complete the "Process" piece for the Planning 2 badge. 
    1. Upload your experiment plan as the artifact.
    2. Write a text reflection. Imagine yourself a year from now needing to plan an experiment. Explain to yourself how to use the experiment plan document to create a new experiment.

Goal:
Write an introduction to your lab report.

Set Up Soaking
Take 5-10 minutes to set up your seeds to soak for tomorrow. Make sure to:
  • Label the beakers with the type of seeds and your initials.
  • Store the beakers INSIDE YOUR DRAWER so no one messes with them.

Review Cellular Respiration
With your table group answer the following questions on whiteboards:
  1. Who or what does cellular respiration?
  2. Why is cellular respiration needed?
  3. What are the products and reactants of cellular respiration (words and equation)?
  4. How does your research help heal the world, fuel the world, feed the world, and restore and protect the environment?

How to Write an Intro
Follow along as Mrs. Wallace demonstrates her writing routine. 

Write!

  1. In google docs, go to "Shared with Me" and open the cellular respiration report document I made for you.
  2. SILENTLY write your introduction in that google doc.

Using the provided rubric, highlight where you fall on the rubric. On the back describe what you can do to make your intro better.

With your tablemates, brainstorm the characteristics of a good procedure. Share with the class.

Finish Experiment Design Plan
Using the guidelines for a good procedure, write a procedure that answers your research question in your experiment design plan. 

Critique Experiment Design Plan
Trade your procedure with the group across from you. Using the guidelines for a good procedure, provide suggestions for improvement. You may write directly on their document.
